C-RAC Statement on Retirements of NECHE and MSCHE Presidents

C-RAC

The Council of Regional Accrediting Commissions (C-RAC) today issued a statement of expressing gratitude to former New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE) President Barbara Brittingham and former Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) Elizabeth Sibolski for their service to the Council. Both Drs. Brittingham and Sibolski have recently retired from their respective Commissions.

Dr. Belle S. Wheelan, President of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission and Chair of C-RAC, said, “We are incredibly fortunate to have benefitted from the insight and wisdom of Dr. Brittingham and Dr. Sibolski over the years. Barbara and Beth have been tremendous advocates for the value of accreditation to strengthen our higher education system and assure greater quality for students. They’ve carried the mantle to help inform institutions, the public, policymakers, and the media. Their guidance as members of C-RAC has been immeasurable and we will miss them greatly.”

Dr. Brittingham, who retired from NECHE on July 19, has been succeeded by Lawrence M. Schall effective July 20, 2020. Dr. Schall most recently served as president of Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, Georgia. Read more about Dr. Schall here.

Dr. Sibolski retired on on June 30, 2020, and has been succeeded by MSCHE’s former Senior Vice President and Chief of Staff Heather Perfetti. Read more about Dr. Perfetti here and see an MSCHE tribute to Dr. Sibolski here.
